Pisco at London DISTIL 2008 |

The Peruvian Embassy is glad to announce that for the first time a Pisco Pavilion will be present at the London Distil Spirits Fair, serving legendary Peruvian cocktails such as Pisco Sour and Pisco Punch to visitors from the spirits trade in the UK and abroad. Manned by Johnny Schuler, the most distinguished expert on Peru's national drink, and Hans Hilburg, a renowned barman and cocktail connoisseur, the pavilion will provide a window into the roots of this mysterious drink and the distilation process which makes it so unique. It will display to the public pisco's high quality and richness through briefings by the two experts. Official tastings of the drink have also been arranged to take place on Tuesday May 20th from 15:15 to 16:00 hrs. Jose Moquillaza, Vicepresident of Peru's National Council for the Regulation of Pisco Origin highlighted the strategic nature of the decision to participate at DISTIL in London, "Distil could be the doorway for pisco's entry into European markets".

Organised with the support of the Simon Difford, publisher of the well-known "Difford's Guide to Discerning Drinks", the programme for the pisco visit includes a private encounter with the trade press and the most distinguished bartenders in London, who will enjoy a hands on interactive session and learn the original recipes for pisco cocktails. Pisco presence has already caused excitement among the fair's organisers. Event director James Murray highlighted Peru's group participation fits well with the objectives of the fair. "Distil will provide the perfect platform for tasting, discussion and education with a route to market for global spirits companies wanting to exploit the European market place," he said to Just-Drinks magazine. For those interested in developing business ties to exploit this product, the visit of 34 representatives from the Pisco industry is an exceptional opportunity to do this. The National Council for the Regulation of the Pisco Origin, Promperu, the National Society of Industries and 16 enteprises will be represented including award winners at the prestigious Vinalies Internationales in Paris.
