Fionn McCann’s exhibition comprises a range of images from his seven-week trip around South America in the winter of 2006. Beginning in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the journey proceeded to Chile, Tierra Del Fuego, on to Peru and Bolivia.
It was a visit to the Elim orphanage that particularly inspired the creation of this exhibition. This orphanage in the Santiago district of Cusco, Peru, is a charity that provides shelter, medical and educational support, social and personal development, arts, crafts and sport activities for the street children of the area. Of the 3,500 street children in Cusco, Elim, an entirely self-funded organisation can support only 28 children.
Elim is currently looking for funding to build a library, workshop and accommodation for another 40 children. Some of the proceeds from this exhibition will go to assist this objective.
