| On 31 July the 30 Member States of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), comprised of the most advanced economies of the world, unanimously approved Peru's adherence to the OECD Declaration on International Investment and Multinational Enterprises.
The decision was adopted after a thorough review of Peru's investment policies which will be published in autumn 2008. It marks recognition of Peru's impressive progress in pursuing policy reforms to improve the country’s business climate and reduce poverty.
As an adherent to the Declaration, Peru commits to deal with foreign investors in the same way as domestic investors and to promote responsible business conduct. In turn, the country benefits from similar assurance from the 40 other adherents to treat Peruvian investors abroad fairly and to encourage their multinational enterprises operating in the country to contribute to economic, social and environmental progress.
