Dear readers,

After some weeks off for summer season, 'Peru Today' returns with information to keep you updated with news and activities about Peru in the United Kingdom.

As for every issue, the Office of Trade and Investment has prepared its report on the most interesting economic news and investment opportunities. This last subject and its relationship with the environment and society will be analysed by two recognised academics in two interesting talks in October and November. Check the calendar of activities for dates.

Don't miss the lecture by Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa, who will be speaking about 'Latin American History and Literature' on 14th October at King's College.

For those interested in writing stories or essays in Spanish, Petroperu has launched a new edition of the COPE Prize. All works can be sent to the Peruvian Embassy. Find the link to the bases of the prize in the Competitions section.

For film lovers, 'Cinema at the Embassy' will present the latest film of Francisco Lombardi 'Mariposa Negra' on 23rd October.

Peru adheres to OECD Declaration on International Investment and Multinational Enterprises

On 31 July the 30 Member States of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), comprised of the most advanced economies of the world, unanimously approved Peru's adherence to the OECD Declaration on International Investment and Multinational Enterprises.

 
 

Peru is rising star for Manufacturing and Services Investment according to PricewaterhouseCoopers

Peru is considered a rising star according to PricewaterhouseCoopers latest EM20 Index which ranks emerging markets on how attractive they are for manufacturing and services investment. In particular, it ranks sixth in the EM20 of the highest interest grade for investment in industrial manufacturing.

 

PromPeru and Oneworld join efforts to promote tourism in Peru

Oneworld Alliance, which represents the most prominent firms in the airline business, is working in one of the biggest campaigns to attract visitors to Peru in partnership with the Peru Export and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru).

 
 
   

Peruvian Book ‘La Flor Morada de los Andes’ is selected for a Gourmand Award among the ‘Best of the best for the past 12 years’

In a ceremony that will be held at the Frankfurt Opera House on the next 14th October, the book ‘La Flor Morada de los Andes, Historia y Receta de la Papa y otros Tubérculos y Raíces’ by Sara Beatriz Guardia will be honoured with a Gourmand Award within the ‘Best of the best for the past 12 years’.

 
 
 
 
 

Baila Peru: first representatives of Peruvian Culture at Thames Festival Parade

Baila Peru would like to thank the organisers of the Thames Festival for giving the group the opportunity to be part of this important cultural event.

 

 

Peruvians recognized in photograph and art competitions

Architect Rafael Contreras has been awarded with a runner-up in 'Capture the Art of Concrete', a photographic competition organized by 'The Concrete Centre' and the magazine 'Building Design'. His work will be shown in an exhibition to be held on 10th November at the Hayward Gallery in Southbank.

Artist Marco Carpio was selected to present his work 'Hyde Park' as part of the 'Threadneedle Figurative Prize' exhibition. His installation, a squirrel in a wooden box covered with concrete, was chosen from a total of 2700 works.

Wednesday 26th November, 6.30pm: 'The InterOceanic Highway: benefit or tragedy for Peru?' by Tony Morrison

Hailed as one of the largest civil-engineering projects in Peruvian history, the TransOceanica will give access to the South American hinterland and link Peru and Brazil. But environmentalists fear that it will open Amazon resources to voracious Asian markets.

From 27th September to 26th October: 'Art in the flat' presents an exhibition of Latin American art at the Cobden Club

This exhibition will show works of Peruvian artists Evelyn Merino Reyna, Diego Alvarado, Jose Carlos Martinat,  Marco Carpio, Joseph Firbas, Lizi Sanchez, Oswaldo Higuchi, Cesar Delgado Wixar and Luis Garcia Zapatero.

Tacna, possesor of a moderate climate, nice people, and with a strong economy flow, is located around 52 kilometres from the Chilean border. The department was the ancient home of the Aymaras who traded diverse coastal products like ají peppers, fish and shellfish. When the Spaniards arrived in the sixteenth century, the wine grape production spread to this area and that is the reason why you can visit the wineries of today's that produce excellent wines and piscos.
