It has been almost a year since the current team at the Peruvian Embassy was appointed. The need for an instrument to reach people and institutions interested in Peru, with the latest information about its projection in the United Kingdom and on the relationship between both countries, had become a natural goal in the course of time.
This month we are pleased to present the first issue of ‘Peru News’, the monthly electronic newsletter of the Peruvian Embassy. This number includes a briefing of the current situation of the Peruvian economy and a report of the recent meeting of the British-Peruvian Trade Investment Group prepared by the Commercial Office of the Embassy.
You will also find details about the presentation of credentials of Ambassador Ricardo V. Luna as Concurrent Ambassador to Ireland and an interesting interview to the well-known Peruvian chef Gastón Acurio about the boom of Peruvian cuisine and his projects in London for the near future.

| Peruvian economy grew in 2007 by 13-year high of 9% According the Central Bank, Peru's GDP expanded by 9.9% in December of last year, spurred by growth in non-primary sectors, which grew by 11.1% including a surge of 8.4% in manufacturing and of 24.5% in construction. |

In a special ceremony on 19th February, the Peruvian Ambassador to the United Kingdom and North Ireland, Ricardo V. Luna, presented his credentials to the President of Ireland, Mrs. Mary McAleese, at her official residence in Dublin.

Loreto is the largest yet least populated department in Peru, it is covered by dense vegetation and by primary and secondary jungle with low hills and slightly rolling landscape, crisscrossed by the many rivers of the Amazon river basin, which is born at the confluence of the Marañon and Ucayali rivers.
