In a special ceremony on 19th February, the Peruvian Ambassador to the United Kingdom and North Ireland, Ricardo V. Luna, presented his credentials as concurrent Ambassador to the President of Ireland, Mrs. Mary McAleese, at her official residence in Dublin.
Ambassador Luna expressed his aim to work together during his appointment to strengthen the relationship between the two countries. "Both Ireland and Peru are carrying out serious efforts in sustainable development and international integration that should contribute to the consolidation of a positive common agenda based on democracy, respect of human rights and an active participation in the international community", he affirmed.
In another passage of his speech, the Peruvian Ambassador assured Peru's interest in enhacing commercial relations with Ireland as a result of the negotiations now taking place between the Andean Group and the European Union, a process where both countries are playing fundamental roles that should result in an Association Agreement that includes a Free Trade Area.
As part of his activities in Dublin, the Peruvian Ambassador met the Honorary Consul of Peru, Mr. Paul Reville. During their meeting both changed points of view on the situation of the Peruvian Community in Ireland.
The diplomatic relations between Peru and Ireland were estabished on 27th June 1999 during the European Union-Latin America Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
