FEBRUARY 2009

Thursday 5th to Sunday 8th

For the seventh consecutive time, PromPeru participated in ‘Destinations, the holiday and travel show’ at Earl’s Court Exhibition Centre. On this opportunity, the Amazon River was promoted as a tourist destination alongside the most well-known places. The show received both people related to the Tourism industry as well as the general public, who enjoyed dance performances by the group ‘Manos Negras’.

 

 

 

DECEMBER 2008

Monday 15th

Peruvian Minister of Economics and Finance (at the time) Dr. Luis Valdivieso visited London as part of a promotional tour through major financial and investment centres.
Dr. Valdivieso was joined by the President of Peru's Central Bank, their top advisors, the Director of Peru’s investment promotion agency, and the CEOs and general managers of Peru's biggest bank, insurance, agroindustry, construction and mining groups.

Tuesday 2nd

The Peruvian Embassy welcomed a range of business representatives from the UK fashion and apparel industry for a special presentation on Peru's vibrant textiles and apparel sector.
'Peru Textiles' began with a brief welcome by the Peruvian Ambassador, H.E. Ricardo V. Luna, followed by the main presentation and ending with comments by Mr. Hernán Balcázar, CEO of Wall Luxury Essentials, on his experience as a UK importer of Peruvian textile products.

Wednesday 3rd to Friday 5th

Peruvian Minister of Environment, Dr. Antonio Brack Egg, visited the United Kingdom during three days as part of a working tour around Europe, in order to present the main points of his office’s policy and to promote possibilities of technical and economic cooperation in Peru. In addition to official meetings, Dr. Brack offered a presentation in Canning House to an audience that included government authorities, academics, business and non-governmental organizations representatives.

   
   

NOVEMBER 2008

Thursday 27th

The Peruvian director Silvana Aguirre presented her latest short film ‘Ela’ (2007), which has been awarded several prizes in film festivals around the world. After the presentation, the director and her team shared a cocktail reception with the public. With this exhibition, Cinema at the Embassy closed the 2008 season.

Monday 10th to Thursday 13th

Peru showed the best of its tourist attractions at the World Travel Market 2008, alongside more than 200 countries and regions from all over the world. A total of 50,000 participants, including visitors, exhibitors and media, had the opportunity to learn more about Peru and all it has to offer. Peruvian tour operators, travel agencies and hotels representatives received visitors in more than 30 stands which were part of the PromPeru exhibitor area. In addition, an exhibition of Shipibo-Conibo art was held during the four days of the event.

 
   
   

OCTOBER 2008

Friday 31st

The Peruvian Government conferred the country’s highest distinction to Professor John Fisher, from the Institute of Latin American Studies of Liverpool University. The decoration of ‘The Order of the Sun of Peru in the grade of Knight Commander’ medal (“Orden del Sol del Perú” en el grado de gran oficial) was granted for his remarkable contribution for over 40 years to the research and study of different aspects of Peruvian History. In a ceremony held at the Peruvian Residence, Ambassador Ricardo V. Luna, in representation of the Government, presented the medal to Professor Fisher, in presence of prominent academics and cultural figures.
